Plastic straws have a lot going for them. They’re convenient, they’re cheap, and they’re easy available. But whilst these are great to have on standby at home, we recommend using stainless steel straws for drinking the smoothies or milkshakes that you make on a regular basis. In this article, we tell you all you need to know about stainless steel straws, and the benefits of using these over plastic straws.
What’s wrong with using plastic straws?
First things first - plastic straws are known to contain Bisphenol A (BPA), a harmful chemical which mimics the activity of the estrogen hormone. BPA has been shown to result in several reproductive disorders and heart conditions, and just as you’d buy a BPA-free bottle for drinking water, you should also ensure that your straws don’t contain any BPA.

These are non-toxic, and do not rust with use.
